Joshua Porter pulled his black razor from his pocket and dialed in his wife’s number. She was at work—probably in the middle of lecturing her students—and wouldn’t want to be disturbed. But he was in an infectiously good mood, and he hoped to pass that along to her (and hopefully her students as well).
“Yes?” She asked.
“Hey, sweetie.”
“Hi. What do you want? I’m in the middle of something.”
“You know, you kind of remind me of Mrs. Clemons, my theater teacher from high school when you talk like that.”
“What?” She said, “Like what?”
“All annoyed like that. You sound like her. She was a babe.”
“Josh, I really don’t have time for this…”
“That’s okay, I’ll be gone in a minute. I was wondering… would you like to go to dinner today?”
“Well… sure. Have a place in mind?”
“Yeah, but it’s a surprise,” He paused, “I miss you.”
“I miss you too,” She said, “But honey, I’ve got to go now, I’ll see you later, okay?”
“Pick you up at six?” He said.
“You always do.”
He chuckled and hung up the phone.
