Excerpt: Simple Isabel Frye

Chapter One

What do you say in a moment like this? How do you commemorative a life at its end when you should have been celebrating that life all along? What would I give to go back in time, to do it all over again, to let her know just how special she was. But we can’t go back. Isabel would have been the first to tell us that. All we can do is move forward from here. And yet, in order to move forward, I feel I must go back. To understand a life such as Isabel’s, you must start at the beginning. For me, the beginning came the summer I turned four. The early morning I woke to my father hovering above me, gently shaking my shoulder, I had no idea just how much my life was about to change…
