Excerpt: the Faerie Eye

The leaves stirred feebly in the slight nighttime breeze, scratching against the cold, hard ground. Wren could smell the scent of them, wet with dew, and it almost made her dizzy. She inhaled deeply from her cigarette, trying to clear her head. Sometimes she felt like nature was going to swallow her whole if she wasn't careful. She flicked her ashes and watched them slowly float down to the ground from the edge of the roof that she was perched upon. She adjusted her leg and felt her fishnet stocking tear as it scratched against the shingles.
"Damn.", she muttered, standing up from her perch and walking across the roof to her bedroom window. She kneeled and stepped through into her dimly lit bedroom, walking over to the full length mirror on the wall to examine the damage done to her stocking. There was a hole in the back of the leg big enough to put her fist through. She sighed and decided it didn't really matter. She could tear more holes in them later, so then it would be a statement and not an accident. She would just have to wear them with the one hole tonight though, since she didn't have time to tear more at the moment. She had places to be.
