Excerpt: Footsteps on the Sand

My dad always said that you had to sink your feet into the sand of life. Geez what kind of a hokey statement is that? I guess I sort of tiptoe over the sand of life so I am not sure what that means. When you’re sixteen and you haven’t even had a date it doesn’t feel like your life has started. At least I don’t think mine had started before we went to the beach last summer.
