Synopsis: Yes, And...

A group from Chicago, who met via Craigslist, is preparing to perform an improv show at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in a small venue. While the success of the performance isn't the main motivation for the professional improv actors, Andy and Steve, a huge failure would hurt their careers. When there is an opportunity for the group to perform at a much better venue, they accept even though the group isn't ready.

Andy and Steve used Craigslist to get together a group that would cover the costs of the Fringe Festival since they usually lose money when they attend. Jon and Ivy joined for an unusual honeymoon trip, then canceled the wedding but both went on the trip anyway. Angela knows her parents have a secret and hopes to find out what it is during this trip. Clark is the only member from Scotland. He resents the others for being able to take a three week expensive trip since he has to work two jobs just to be able to afford being in Edinburgh during the festival. The entire book occurs in 24 hours and is told from multiple POVs.

Yes, And...

"Tonight? Eight o'clock? Main stage?"

Andy Hudson sensed the excitement in his business partner's voice, but couldn't tell who Steve was talking to. He started to rinse the dirty plates in the sink, but stopped when Steve tapped his shoulder and made a cutting motion across his neck.

He picked up a rag, and wiped crumbs off the gray countertop, replaced the top on the orange juice container and returned it to the half-sized refrigerator, taking out the small carton of milk. Andy poured himself another cup of coffee, and sat across from Steve at the kitchen table.

After several minutes of short answers that gave no hint of the topic, Steve nodded and said, "Yes, we'll be ready. All ten, right."

As soon as Steve finished the call, Andy demanded, "Ready for what?"

"Amazing news!" Steve jumped up with his hands in the air. "We're the prime time act at Pleasance tonight."

"Where?"

"The Queen Dome."

Andy whistled. "That must seat nearly two hundred people. What happened?"

"The scheduled act had food poisoning, and had to cancel in the middle of the show last night."

"And they called us?"

Steve's bushy eyebrows rose half an inch. "It is after eleven. I don't think we were their first call, but we get the venue for one night."

"Tonight? The group isn't ready. We're not supposed to perform for another week."

"It's improvisional theater." Steve's deep laugh filled the small kitchen. "We're never ready, or always ready. It depends on how you look at it."

Andy set down his coffee cup. "This is serious. You shouldn't have committed without talking to me first."

"There wasn't time. Lighten up, Andy. Comedy should be fun."

"Easy for you to say. You're not the one who maxed out his credit card to pay for our venue."

"It will all work out," Steve said. "By performing at the Queen Dome at Pleasance tonight, we'll get extra publicity for our regular show. If more people come out to see our show, our ticket sales will increase, which will increase our profit. See, I do listen to your lectures about finances."

Disturbed by how much his friend sounded like Andy's always careful father, Andy stuck out his tongue. "Unless we bomb horribly. What will that do to our regular show?"
