Pandora's Box
an excerpt
“Attention all VSA’s. This is Fred and starting with the registers at the south side of the building, tell me which type of music is better: rock or hip-hop.”
Ted went with hip-hop, Aaron went with rock.
“Part one, entry.”
That was Austin, who went with rock.
“Part one, exit.”
“I don’t think anyone’s there Fred.”
“Never mind.”
There was a pause and then “South registers, is there anyone at the door?”
“No.”
“Okay, north registers.”
That was Noelle and Tara, who voted rock and rock.
“Frank?”
“Hip-hop.”
“I vote hip-hop. So, that makes it 4 to 3 in favor of rock. No one’s at north doors or at will-call or on break.”
“This is Monica for will-call. I go with rock.”
“Okay, what about part two?”
“I was down there but now I am floating.”
“What’s your answer then Hermione?”
“Neither. Country music trumps everything else.”
“That doesn’t count. You have to pick one or the other.”
“I can’t pick both? Because I like both and I can’t pick. That’s also why I went with country.”
“So it’s 5 to 3 in favor of rock with one vote that’s null and void.”
“Fred, are you really that bored?”
“Yes. And it’s also music appreciation day.”
“Since when?”
“Since now.”
“Whatever you say Fred.”
“That’s the best answer I’ve heard all day Hermione.”
“Thank you to whoever just said that. I aim to please.”
“Please who and how do you plan to please them?”
(it sounded like Fred but I wasn’t sure).
“Depends on who it is and what they want,” I quipped.
“Okay, now that’s a little too much info and completely unnecessary. I really didn’t need to know that.”
“My statement was completely fine. It’s not my fault that your filthy mind is twisting my words around.”
“You know it’s too much if it’s Fred saying it.”
“Also not my fault if he’s imagining things that aren’t there. It’s okay Fred. We all know that you want something dirty to be in there because it gives you the perfect excuse to say what we know you’re already thinking.”
