Brief Author Bio: The first time that National Novel-Writing Month ever came to my attention, I was in 10th grade and taking Algebra II, with the craziest math teacher ever. He printed out a copy of an e-mail he got about this contest and announced to the class that he was going to try it, and then he asked if any of us would like to see the e-mail and get the information about the contest. I'm not really sure why, but I put my hand up. I scanned the information about it, and decided that it was something I wanted to try. I guess my thought process was something like this: "girl who has been writing since she was four" + "absolutely insane deadline" = "finished product"? Yeah, sure. Seems plausible to me. On October 18th, I made it official--I was doing it, and there was no turning back. And I did it. And then in 2007, I did it again. And in 2008, I did it again. It's now 2009. And you know what I'm gonna do? I'm gonna do it AGAIN! 2006: Synapse - little over 50,000 words of plotless garbage |

Boredom, apathy, rudeness, television--these are only a few of the great evils that are infiltrating young Minami Tachibana's modern life. With the help of her best friend and boyfriend, she is confident that she can at least deal with the great evils of society until she graduates from high school.
But Minami soon discovers that there is an even greater evil that is just around the corner, and she may be the only one capable of stopping it. Will she rise to the challenge?
Excerpt: The Takeover (Working Title)
I turn my cards over first and sigh. Then Daichi turns his over and casts me a glance. "It's all yours, Nami-chan."
I look down at the cards. "Wait, what?! I thought you looked at my cards!"
"I did. I let you win." He winks at me. "It's the least I could do for looking at your cards."
I don't think I've ever gotten over indignation so fast in my life. "You are the cutest little guy ever!" I say and wrap my arms around him. "Isn't he the cutest guy ever?"
Ryuu, Kenta and Shiro all roll their eyes at each other.
"Okay, well, the least I can do for allowing you to let me win is getting you a Ramuné on my way out to the cooler. How's that sound?" I ask Daichi.
"That sounds just fine," he says.
"You guys can play a couple of hands without me," I say as I push my chair in. "I'll be right back."
When I push the garage door open, I see the usual scene—some of the older adults are standing in a circle, most smoking and all drinking, and they're all engaged in some form of seemingly-mindless chatter. Most don't even look at me as I go to the cooler to grab two sodas.
Once I pick out two drinks, I look up—and who should I see but Sakura and Jun Satou, standing outside their house and talking to a uniformed worker holding a clipboard. Hmm, I think, I wonder what they're talking about... There's a truck parked outside their house—I don't really know much about that company, but I recognized them from an ad that I saw in computer class. It's a construction company, specializing in larger buildings.
I wonder what they're doing talking to a large-building construction company... maybe they're rich and want something like that built in their backyard? Bet the chonaikai will have something to say about that...
"Pfft... suburbs," I mutter as I straighten up and go back inside to continue the card game.
