Satsuma Eyes and the Lost Alliance
an excerpt

“You’re lying I can tell. You don’t make any sense. None of this is adding up. If you’re going to lie I am going to leave.”
“No you’re not. I’m going to poison you, you’re going to be dead and then I can assign someone more fitting to do my bidding and fake rescuing. Even if you do escape this tree; who will believe you?”
“Oh I think you misunderstand my plan Your Majesty. I am not leaving here without killing you.”
“If that is the way it must be but you are forgetting that I have another leader assigned for just this purpose.”
“Oh you do not have anyone that you are aware of. May I take you on a short journey into your memory Your Royal Highness? Think back about two hundred and thirty years. Do you remember having a child?” The Queen’s eyes enlarged to the size of grapefruits as she realized where this journey in her memory was taking her.
“You wouldn’t dare!”
“An hour ago you might have believed that I wouldn’t dare hold a knife to your throat.”
“You denied the crown and your responsibilities to the throne!” The Queen was screeching now.
“If you recall the law,” The Commander’s voice remained calm, steady, and threatening. “If the King or Queen dies the throne is passed down to the next blood heir. As such that would clearly indicate that it would go to your child, me.”
“I always knew you were rotten! I knew you would betray me one day! Get out you filthy halfbreed!” The Queen screeched at Elizabeth. “You are no daughter of mine! Your magic is not even brown!”
“Mother! You were the one who decided to be the play thing of an inconsiderate Human! You could have left him at any point but instead you ended up with me! The Mighty Ones know you killed him! After you die I will set right all that you have thrown in a mud hole!”

Elizabeth walked calmly over to her mother and whispered in her ear, “I love you.” And she plunged her jagged dagger into her mother’s chest aiming carefully so as to hit her heart where here magic was stored. The Queen’s eyes relaxed as she whispered in her daughter’s ear.
“I hate you.” And as she finished her sentence Elizabeth wrenched the blade out of her mother’s heart letting the blood spill freely. A brown cloud emerged through the wound in her mother’s chest and in that instant Liz covered her ears as the brown cloud took the shape of her mother and it opened it’s mouth and spoke. Elizabeth had heard an elf’s magic speak before and she had gone deaf for three days. No one else around had gone deaf but she had. When the breeze blew the magic away Liz was pummled by it’s force. She suddenly felt anger, betrayal, but mostly fear as her mother’s last feelings swept over her.
