Synopsis: Burning Mystery

Her friend had died in an apartment fire two days ago. Then how could she call me tonight?

Excerpt: Burning Mystery

She had tried listening to the news but couldn’t focus on it. Amanda made her living as a detective trusting her instincts she couldn’t just turn it off, especially when the feelings were growing stronger.
She heard someone’s smoke alarm go off in one of the apartments above. Someone’s up late cooking, she thought. She heard a loud whack and the alarm stopped. Then another sounded in a different part of the building, then another and another.
Oh, God. Was the building on fire? As old as it was the building would probably burn fast. She went to the window and look at the windows of the building across the street. There in the reflection of the windows she saw flames and smoke billowing above her.
