TropiKa
an excerpt

Chapter 1:

“I’m telling you…”

“No I’m telling you…”

“But, Chief…”

“So, just because someone is into this sport they’re…”

“Yes, Sir, that’s exactly it!”

“No…”

The little group out side the office watched the two like anyone would a tennis match. They didn’t need to hear a thing; they’d heard it a dozen times. This time, though, was more heated Charles fists where clenching, and you could tell he was struggling not to pound into the desk.

“But, Chief… This sport, these beasts; it doesn’t involve luck, chance, or a God itself. Mater of fact the Devil himself has claimed them as pawns; savage, carnivorous, and blood thirsty.”

“That’s enough!”

“Let me make a case!”

“Fine… Just once! But if you try any of your underhanded tricks…”

The little group hurried back to sitting at their desks. Books being flipped opened, papers shuffled, and other various activities in an attempt to make as if they weren’t ever paying attention. The looked up, all at once, with a gasp as the door slammed shut behind Charles.

“I already know.” Charles said in a flustered, scratchy voice as he dropped into the rickety old chair at the dilapidated desk. His station wasn’t fancy. Far from it, it was the oldest in the department. He could care less though because he never sat at it all to often. “I’m going to prove my point!” He exclaimed to no one in particular, but to everyone.

Quickly flipping through the paper Charles had to find the island, and the date of the next event. ‘This sport is so exclusive, and expensive. No wonder only the rich can afford to watch. But HE stands out…” His thoughts trailed into mind numbing garble.
