Matu'a
an excerpt

Blue sky pierced through the misty vale of clouds meandering around a tall peak. A small boy was climbing the dark brown cliff face. Breathing hard, his hands sliding and groping over loose dirt and stones here and there, pausing every few minutes to catch his breath in heaving gasps. Pebbles tumbled down, dusting his hair with a fiery fairy powder, clouding his vision and producing a reddish glow from the light gleaming around him. He grunted, grasping his shoulder bag tight to his chest, determining his foot to propel his frame up a few more, just a few more feet. Birds squawked in the distance, cries of a mother returning to feed her children. An ant scurried across the surface of the rock, between cracks and over his hand, producing a tickling sensation that threatened to upset his balance slightly. Grass, a dull green jutting up from the unseen plateau above, appeared as dancing figures to weary eyes. His weathered foot, consistency of leather and toughness to match, lifted a final time above his waistline as the boy pushed himself one last metre to the peak.
