Brief Author Bio:

Married mother of four young adults. Contemporary romance writer and I am now learning to write for children. Photographer and I love to fiddle with jasc and adobe.

Synopsis:

The hero refused to live the type of life his family was cursed to live. He wanted to be human so he married his childhood sweetheart. They had a child together. Before their marriage the Heroine went off to school wanting to become a teacher. While she was there, something terrible happened to her, something she never wanted to talk about. When she returned home, he knew somthing was wrong. Yet he accepted that she did not want to talk about it. After all he had his own secrets. One frosty moonless night weird sounds could be heard outdoors, he went to investigate. Right as he realised he was in danger he tried to use his powers, however with lack of practice he was too late in the transformation. When he awoke he knew what had happened. He entered the house to a fretful wife. Told her he had to go, and left thinking his family would be safe with him gone.

He found himself a job living on the animals out in the wild. Meeting hickers and mountain men getting information about different parts of his world. Once he found out that people were being found half eaten. He became worried that his family was in worse trouble than when he left. With the help of his uncle and unknown to him his father, he made his way back to his family to discover them gone. Now he has to search for them.

Excerpt:

Dew was thick as he sliced his way down the hill. Though he heard the screaching he couldn’t budge. It felt as if there was something holding him down. Now that he’d fought himself awake and managed to cloak his horse. Everything seemed to be against him. If only he hadn’t gone off in a demented state.

For the last few months there was a horrible mingling presence among the villageurs and as time went by it just got worse. He pressed harder on his horses flanks, trying to press the horse to go down faster. Even though he did winny and give more he didn’t seem to advance any faster.

If only this thickness would lighten up. The silence was deffening. It felt like he had ridden for hours already. ‘Please oh please let them be okay.’ he thought to himself.

He kicked harder and harder untill he arrived in a shining that just wouldn’t go away. ‘By god am I dead? This light is so brilliant a feel so light.’ He felt all his senses come alive. As if he was being carried.

He could feel himself thrashing yet he wasn’t getting anywhere.

‘Where am I?’ His eyes flashed open. Yet the briliance of the sun obliged him to close them. ‘Where am I?’ he asked himself again.

The hardness of the ground let him know he was laying on him back on a lumpy surface. He rolled over sat up and gazed around himself. The land was familier. He now realized it was all a dream. Yet it felt so real. He saw his horse just beyond grazing. His head lifted and he winnied as he noticed his master was awake.

_________ put his head in his hands, rubbing his eyes trying to expell his thoughts that his dreams had sliced him with during the night. His senses were on full alert, yet hunger was first on his mind. He turned over and dug through his sac to find some bloody jerky. Thinking how lucky his horse was to have his food in abundance.

With all the hell he went through to get where he is. Why he had to dream of his family, he had no idea.

He’d left them behind once he knew what he was going through. Trying to prevent himself from, delving them into this hell hole that he happens to find himself in. Life as he knew it was no more.

How he loved his Jessy, he wanted to give his darling everything under the sun. Yet one night that all changed. Now for their survival he had to live on the other side of the land. As far away as he could. To make sure he did not delve them into the same hellhole he himself was in.

His senses came alive. He knew that something was out there. For now he understood that his inner guide was never wrong. If only he’d listened to it on that fatefull night.

‘Not a time for reminising.’ He stood and streached going about his dayly activities. His hearing had inhanced his awareness, giving deeper meaning to survival. He knew that his breakfast was but a few feet away. At the appropriate time he jumped and landed on his prey with the ferosity of a feline in mens clothing.

All his energy was bound on his victim, as he sucked the blood out of it. This poor carcus was his breakfast. He had no idea why he was able to stay alive. It felt as if some type of cloak was hovering over his body saving him from the burning sensation his eyes had to put up with.

All of his life he knew he was special compared to other people, his parents showed him what he was capable of. His fathers words; “My dear son your life will change as you get older, what we’ve showed you.” _________ watched his fathers face it seemed to mask the pain of what his words were telling him. “Hmmm, you will need these powers one day. They will save your life. But at the same time they will possibly put you in a hell hole. Obliging you to take a different route than that you’d first thought was your destiny.”

His fathers words still echoed their dire straight.

He took it upon himself to dig a hole deep enough to put the carcus in. He felt his strenght return. Now that he had new powers his body was getting used to them. If only he hadn’t had to leave like he did. Yet he knew he would have bitten down on his beloved if he didn’t. She and his daughter would be safe from him. All he had to do was leave.

When he’d married his long time love Jessica he thought that all would be good. Nothing would come and destroy what he had. His powers were quieted, and his fathers words were burried deep so deep that he’d actually thought he could live the life he wanted. Once his daugher came he was so delighted he thought, life was his oyster and that he could live and give them all the beauty in the world.

Until that night Jessy felt something was wrong. He’d sensed it as well. Not daring to put to words what was troubling him. He had actually heard rumors of some type of bloodthursty demon in their midst. What he should have done was to pack his family and leave like others had done. But no he thought he was able to deal with the situation.

His father had tought him well and he was going to deal with it.

On that fateful night, he told Jessy. “I’ll take a look and see what is causing the ruchous out side.” For they could hear screaching as if someone was in pain. It happened every so often. His Jessy was in such a fit, he calmed her down. Told her to take care of their darling baby, and left in search of the noises.

The blackish-blue night was moonless and so dense he could see very little. He let his senses guide him. His eyes saw tree shadows then as his senses hicked up he could see the bumps on the ground as he saw rocks and unusal animals shapes laying here and there. He was on the verge of turning back when he heard yet another screach to his left. Turning towards the screaching, his senses on full alert. At first he did not feel in danger, however as he advanced forward he felt this forboding presence, and he knew right then that he was in danger.

He was unable to change into the cloaking formation that would help him to go unnoticed. For he had something sharp dig into his flesh. As soon as he felt the first prick he knew he was done for. At that very moment he knew what his father meant. If he wouldn’t have wanted to be human so badly. If only he’d used his powers he wouldn’t be in this situtation. If only.

It was still dark out as he awoke to a pain in his gut. He knew from the shine on the horizon that a new day was upon him. He saw the lake just beyond and made his way to it. Washed himself trying to rid himself of the terrible feeling of dread.

To no avail was he able to remove it. What was he going to tell his wife? He certainly couldn’t possibly tell her what he’d gone through. He had to protect them. His wife was strong. She’d gone through her own personal pain, some years back when she’d gone to school in a neighboring city.

She wanted to be a school teacher. And thought that she could go and learn all there was to learn and come back to her hometown and teach until they got married. But things hadn’t turned out quite the way she hoped. He knew something bad had happened. Even thought he tried to get it out of her.

She said she’d rather not talk about it, for it was in her past and that notwhere it was going to stay.

Having seen the change in her, he knew that she would not budge so he let it be. If he was right in doing so he was unsure. Yet the one thing he did know was that he loved her more than he dared admit. And that love was what would carry them into their future.

Now he knew there was no way that he could possibly have a future, at least not with them. With this he said his final goodbye on that fateful morning. The pain in his gut had been getting worse. To the point where, when he was around them his senses hightened and his aggressive sense of forbaring where intensified. He kept on looking at their necks. His wifes neck was always aluring, but now he felt like delving into it with all his being. Not wanting to place his family in the same dreadful way he was.

“Jessy I have to leave for your benefit as well as mine. Something happened last night. I am in a bad way and I don’t want to put you in the same way.” The pain in the pit of his stumach was pulling him into a raving desire so intense he almost gave in.

“We can talk about it.” she went to place her hand on his arm.

___________ pulled back for he knew it would be his own undoing. He loved her so much that it would make him go overboard.

“You remember when we were younger and I confessed to you that one day I would have a life changing moment.” He breathed in the bloodfested sent that she emitted.

She nodded. “Yes I do, but that was your father talking, you were only repeating his words.”

“Well now his words have become a reality. I am no longer able to stay with you for I will be that cause of your downfall.”

Scrambling across the room he took everything he knew he’d need. Not daring to kiss her for he knew the slightest touch would break him. His poor Jessie and their daughter were his life. He told her where he stashed the money he’d been saving up. “When it will be possible I will send you more. Yet I have no idea at the moment when that will be.” He looked her deep into her hazel eyes. “Remember, I love you!” He dared to slide his hand on hers. The touch of her hand he brought to his heart, as if he’d actually taken her hand in his and placed it there like he used to do.

Then he was gone.

Jessy crumbled to the floor as he left. If only she’d told him her secret he may have stayed.
