Favorite writers: Victor Hugo, Dan Savage, David Sedaris, James Baldwin, Augusten Burroughs, Jack Kerouac, Douglas Adams, and many others.

Favorite music: Fast music makes me write faster, for some reason. Lately, when I'm not listening to Ben Folds (Rockin' the Subburbs is the perfect writing music. It's upbeat and if you're in one of those weird writers trances listening to Annie Waits, you'll write so much more than you think you can in one sitting. I wrote something like fifteen pages listening to that album. When I'm not listening to Ben Folds, I'm listening to Chopin's etudes. Excellent writing music. Other classical composers that make good writing music include Bizet (especially Carmen), Mozart (that overture to Le Nozze di Figaro is just thrilling), and Lizt.
