Synopsis: Becoming

What are the Androgynids? How will they affect society and humanity as we know it?

Alex was the face of what was to come and she didn't even know it yet, no one would until after she died and through her the world would see the future. She brings to light something that had before been kept hidden and for that she pays the ultimate price and forces society to move into an era they are not entirely ready for.

Emily is greatly affected by Alex in more ways than one. She learns that the things she had always assumed about herself are not as concrete as she thought.

Sasha is Emily's son. She tries to teach him Alex's legacy, but he neither wants it nor understands it. In an attempt to better understand his own feelings he falls in with a group that leads him down a path he never intended.

The human race as we know it is ending in a way no one could predict and no one can stop. Along the way it will challenge everyone's beliefs and way of life. In the end, it will be a new beginning.

Excerpt: Becoming

I sit down in my first class of my first day of college. I make sure to be front and center, just about the only way I can guarantee even being noticed. I stretch my legs out in front of me and cross them at the ankles, slouching down in the seat a bit to get comfortable. I've got a pencil behind one ear and another in my right hand drumming it on the desk out of equal parts nervousness and boredom, waiting for the class to start. Students slowly file in. I've made sure to have all of my classes later in the day so as to avoid waking up too early, by the looks of it, this is considered quite the early class for a lot of the students stumbling in. One guy looks like he rolled straight out of bed, not bothering to comb his hair or put proper clothes on. This is a smaller class, no more than twenty to thirty students, so I figure I’m in good shape to get noticed and shine in this class. I've got two other people in the front row with me, one on either side, both girls. Finally, the instructor shows up. This is a nice easy creative writing 101 class, shouldn’t be too taxing. The instructor writes her name on the white board, apparently she is only called Annie.

“Good morning class.” I smile to myself, it is two in the afternoon. “This is intro to creative writing, in the syllabus you’ll find all the key points that we’ll cover over the next twelve weeks as well as the grading break down.”

She hands out the syllabus, skipping right over me. My heart sinks. I should be use to this, it happens all the time. You'd think the very fact that I don’t look like a woman or a man would make me stand out as interesting, but instead I seem to fade away to nothingness. The brain sees me as white noise, it doesn’t know how to categorize me and so it blanks me out entirely. I clear my throat and raise my hand. Her eyes scan the room looking for the source of the noise, but she still doesn’t focus on me.

“Excuse me, I need one too.” Finally she hones in on my voice.

“Oh dear, I”m sorry, I didn’t see you sitting there.”

And so it goes.
