Synopsis: The Intercessor
In a matriarchal kingdom, the royal house was blessed with three daughters. The eldest became queen after the passing of her mother as she was raised to do; the middle sister was heir presumptive and advisor to the eldest. While in some families, the birth of a third daughter might have led to a power struggle for the throne or outright revolution, the youngest was born marked by the goddess and was presented at an early age to the great city temple. It is common knowledge that when she reaches the age of 21, she will sever all ties to the throne and take her vows to become a priestess. The Queen married and bore a daughter of her own. It was a time of peace and prosperity. Then an envoy came, offering a treaty for trade between the kingdom and another and everything changed.
Now the Consort has been accused of treason and executed without trial. The Queen will no longer see her sisters, and a group of visiting women who came not long after the arrival of the envoy are the Queen’s constant companions. When the two younger sisters discover they might very well be next in line for the executioners block, they do the only thing they can think of: take their young niece and go on the run.
On their side they have the priestesses, a slightly mad Seer and the captain of the elite militia charged with guarding the Queen. Hopefully that will be enough to keep them alive.
