Synopsis: My Musician: The Adventures of Slayer
A novel about the trials and adventures of a Pembroke Welsh Corgi puppy, from his perspective.
Excerpt: My Musician: The Adventures of Slayer
A gentle hand touched his back and scratched behind his ear while he lay curled up with his siblings and napped in the sunlight. The sunlight disappeared as the person whose hand was scratching him so nicely leaned over them. Turning his head to see who had taken away his warm light, the puppy woofed quietly. The young girl made a happy noise and scratched around his ear some more before reaching down and lifting him from the top of the pile of his siblings. He whined and wished she would leave him there, so he turned his head again to nip at her arm so she would do so.
The girl made an unhappy noise but kept her hold on him. Moments later, he whimpered again as she pinched his nose briefly. He did not like it when she did that, but he gave in and let her carry him away from his warm place in the pile.
Outside, he wiggled in her arms and tried to climb up on to her shoulder, where he could lay his head and soak in the sunlight. After wiggling enough, she lifted him up and set him there. Grunting and woofing happily, he rested there until another unhappy voice startled him. He listened to the girl and the older girl talk back and forth, for a while, until a pair of hands took him once again from his place in the warm sun and set him down.
Immediately, he went back to the girl, barking to make her pick him up. The ground under him was wet and tickled his paws in a way he didn't like. In with his siblings, the ground was sweet smelling and slightly scratchy. Here it wet, soft, and different. When the girl didn't pick him up, he looked around and sniffed to try to find his way back to the others and his sweet smelling ground to lie on.
One of the pieces of ground tickled his nose, making him sneeze. Above him, the younger girl made another happy noise and moved over him to touch his back again. She continued to make happy noises at him as he bit at the offending piece of ground. The taste of it in his mouth was strange, but as he chewed, he decided he liked it. He took another bite at the ground and yelped quietly as the girl caused his nose to sting again. Mother made his nose sting when she was unhappy, so the girl must not like what he did to sting him like that.
