Synopsis: Daughters of Ashby

Imagine ancient Scotland, but women ruled the clans and fought the wars.
PMS'ing women.
With big swords.
In kilts!!!

-----

Short synopsis:
A clan heiress searches her family's bloody history and discovers the truth behind her warmongering mother and the sister who supposedly died fifteen years ago.

Longer synopsis:
In the land of Ashby, queens lead their clans to greatness, dominating over men and leaving battlefields slick in the blood of their daughters. One clan stands prepared to shake the very foundation of the elite, a horde of soldiers, mercenaries, and the remnants of destroyed clans hungry for revenge against the oppressive septs. The "Blood Queen" Eilat Dodatrad, a former mercenary and controversial ruler, has prepared an army to fight the largest clan of all, the powerful Clan Idra, founders of Ashby. In the midst of it all is the teenage heiress of Clan Dodatrad, Delaney, a naive yet curious girl, eager to show her mercenary mother she is worthy of her heritage.

As the shadow of war looms closer, Delaney realizes something is amiss with her parents and "family" of adopted captains and generals. With the help of her friends, she sets out to discover her family's violent history, their dark and bloody secrets, and find a balance between the anarchy Clan Dodatrad seek and the tyranny of the clans.

Excerpt: Daughters of Ashby

"The strength of any nation lies not in the sex of their ruler, but in the people. The common folk are the arms and legs of the land, those who trudge behind the plow as it rips through the field, those who swing the hammers and scythes. The army is the heart of the land, for it is their blood which must be spilled onto our soil to keep the arms and legs moving. Above all that is the head, the clan and its leader. Monarchs must study hard," he smiled tenderly to his little sister, "because they must know the condition of the land and how to best use everything attached to it. The head tells the arms and legs what is the best movement, and tells the heart when to pound hard and when to rest at ease. If the people and the army are not united under a strong monarch, then the nation collapses, just as a body collapses when the arms, legs, and heart do not agree with what our brain tells them to do."
