When everything began, there was Bez, among others. Bez wanted children, and so of Bez’s heart were born twenty. The third was called Circle. Once, Circle, in a spell of madness, cut off her foot, and of that foot was born Lin. Of Lin and of Yur, born of Bez’s ninth, was born Sky. Sky, as desirous as Bez but more motherly by far, wanted her first child – but she knew well her father, and did not think it a wise idea to chop off her limbs. She fell in love with another of Bez’s children, Sereny, and so she came to him, and asked that he join with her and help her make a child. Sereny was delighted by Sky’s request, and told her that he would gladly mix with her. Some time later, Circle noticed the child growing in Sky’s stomach. Circle jealously and fiercely guarded her own children, and was angered that her younger brother would take one of her own as his. She went to him while he slept, and roused him, and chopped off his head with a knife.
