The Keepers Machine
an excerpt

S'Mara was in the snow finding it hard to walk. The fight with Nadia left her with no other choice than to leave the clan. Joan made it so. Her head was bent forward as she was walking against the snow, the snow turning her hair white as the flakes fell. She felt an intense pain in her chest. She knew it was going to happen but she tried to will it away. There was no willing it away and it happened as Joan wanted it to. Joan was pulling her love away as only the Fatima's could.
The intense pain threw her into a vision. There was a river and a wolf speaking to her. He told her, "you are lost child but not forgotten." There was a figure with dark wings and a horn and it burnt in her mind. The river and the dark winged figure meant something but she did not know what. She had them vividly in her minds eye. The wolf was talking and then traipsing off into the forest. As the vision faded smoke filled her nostrils and she was surrounded by buildings. With a thump she was back in her own body and in a small shack. There were pipes and a door that is locked. Her belongings were in a neat pile in the corner and there was another in the room with her but she was unaware of whom it was.
Czi'geny came to a bridge. She stopped and looked at it. She walked over and saw a gate. It was covered with names. She looked at it not understanding why they were there. There was a man standing at the gate. He looked at her wiping tears from his eyes. He came over to her and asked her if she knew where she was and if she needed any help. She told him she was scared. He asked her where she was from and why she wasn't there anymore. She didn't know why but she began to tell him her story. The words just flowed from her.
