Excerpt: The Yesterday Prince
The leather cover of the journal was clearly very old but had been well kept, and reminded Jon of both the condition and type of leather from the original version of The Founding of an Empire. The comparison was eerily close but Jon set that aside as coincidence for the moment, and after a close examination of the cover he swung his rifle over his shoulder, picked up the journal and stood as he began to leaf through it. Much to his dismay the pages were inscribed with a combination of the Foundation script and Imperial characters, but the text was all in code. Alongside the encoded text there were several diagrams and charts he couldn’t easily decipher, and sketches of several objects that were unknown to him. As he scanned the pages for anything recognizable he became aware that light other than that from his penlight was spilling into the room. Looking up he could see that sunlight was coming in and sharp angles cut in the ceiling slits were scattering the light. Jon switched off the penlight and looked up, the journal held open in his hand as the late afternoon sunlight spilled over him and illuminated the temple.
