Sally Bell a lady of a certain age – possibly the 18th century, half in love with her dark and masterful hero.

Frank Minshull a “real man” who swaggers to an inner soundtrack of ‘Simply the Best’ and hates being an English teacher.

Paul Thornton an writer trapped in an accountant’s body with a noiresque alter ego who walks those mean streets.

Vivienne Johnson a ‘retired’ courtesan who wasn’t involved in the Profumo/Keeler scandal – but did go to a few of the parties.

Mopsy a small stray puppy – possibly a border collie/hubble telescope cross – if the ears are anything to go by.

Brian Meadows popularly known as Spaceship Brian, A good hearted computer technician with limited social skills.

Linda Richards – a cheerful and competent social worker with a firm belief she could outsell JK Rowlings if only she had time to write a book.

Ann Collins – a self obsessed label junkie who has found her spiritual home in Chick-Lit. When chatting becomes an Olympic sport she’ll be a front runner for gold.

Melanie Spears a mature creative writing student with a shady past and a promising future.

Dan Sweetnham a troubled young man with no gift for writing or housework.

Delia Fox – Linda’s partner. A “Fat Activist”. She’s a Big Beautiful Woman and a part time burlesque dancer in the Fat Follies dancing troupe.

Jacco Hunsley – a 17th century Dutch cabinetmaker who changed his name and settled in Yorkshire after fleeing his homeland when it became known he’d been spying for Spain – it’s a long story.
