Brief Author Bio:

I am a fourth-year senior at SCSU pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Liberal Studies (concentrations being creative writing, music, and psychology). At the moment, my free time is spent bettering/teaching myself needlecraft such as crochet, knitting, and general sewing as well as catching up on my giant pile of TBR.

This is my second year participating in NaNoWriMo. While I did not win last year, I'm happy enough having greatly surpassed any previous attempts at bulking my word count. My only goal this year is to continue disciplining myself into writing every day and if luck holds out, I'll exceed my 2007 word count of 11.5k. =]

Synopsis: [Untitled for Now] & Prodigy [working title]

I'm going with one of my first genuine story ideas that has morphed so much over the years that I haven't even bothered writing much down, but hopefully NaNo will bring a change to that. "Caedmus must learn how to fight. Kalistar must learn how to grow up. Lunissa must learn how to let go. One crystal of unimaginable power will help all three succeed."
-------------
I've decided to work on two novels this year (wow, I *must* be crazy). So, the second one is workingly titled "Prodigy." It's about a teenage boy who's life has been uprooted since his mother's death. He and his father move to a small town to "start fresh." This is where the boy meets a girl with a natural gift for music. The challenge is getting her to embrace this gift and release the impassive attitude she presents to those around her.

Excerpt: [Untitled for Now] & Prodigy [working title]

"Untitled":

Light swarmed the village of Aesh’eif as flames sucked in the buildings and homes that were quickly being evacuated. From the hill, a tall figure barked orders. “Burn everything! Search everyone! We shall not stop until it is found.” The figure was a shadow amongst the chaos. His face remained hidden beneath the dark, heavy hood of his cloak. Only the sound of his voice revealed any characteristics of his—the deep, commanding manner in which his words were phrased evidenced his role as leader among the attackers. He stood proud and confident, a hand resting readily upon the hilt of his sword, watching with enjoyment as the villagers panicked and screamed, futilely making their attempts at escaping unharmed.

"Prodigy":

Jared looked up and saw a girl of average height—perhaps five foot five or five foot six—dressed in jade coloured cargo pants, a dark brown top accessorized with a jade coloured zippered hoodie sweater that was stylishly left unzipped. On her head, she wore a green knitted bean hat which illuminated her shiny, golden-red hair. The hair was looked almost unnaturally straight and hung long and loosely down to around the middle of her back. Draped over her shoulder was a medium- sized messenger bag. It did not look like it could handle too much weight. In fact, Jared noticed that the bag did not seem to be hosting any text books at all. He wondered what the girl had in the bag (if anything) and how she managed to get through a single day of school with out any type of note books or text books.
