Synopsis:
Nikos, "The Relic", is the last living member of any of the old magical races. The world is changing around him, and he's not certain that he really ever had a place within it. With the brink of an industrial revolution and the harnessing of electricity, he's forced to consider the possibility that his time is coming to a close.
Children are disappearing at an alarming rate, and Haben is looking for his son. His son was the first taken, and he's beginning to give up hope. If he can't find his son, he will find who is responsible for his abduction.
Yule is hired to infiltrate a cult that is believed to be the source behind the disappearances. Investigating the truth proves to be more difficult when she discovers that she is deeply tied to the cults' origins, and that their agenda may be her own.
Excerpt:
My name is Nikos. It wasn’t always, but it is now. I chose it. It is mine.
I write now. It keeps me sorted. Age begins to warp things. It begins to make one a bit insane.
I don’t know if I’m the last.
The thought is passing. Fleeting. Momentary. It swirls briefly in the brew that I’m drinking, the one which my nose is currently dipped in. When the glass hits the table, it’s gone.
I don’t know if I’m the last of my kind, and I’m not so sure that I would care particularly if I was.
