The sounds of a perishing city
an excerpt
Prologue
Colours whirled around her as she fell. With a soft thud, she hit the ground. For one short moment, she was surprised her body wasn't splattered across the opposite wall and her brains were still working. It was then that she discovered she had landed on a huge pile of garbage.”
Swearing a little and patting the dirt from her legs and shoulders, she looked around. It took a while before her eyes had ajusted to the dark, a bit longer maybe than it would have done for most human beings.
After a few minutes of total darkness and disoriëntation, she found out she had landed in an alley that cut two bloks of huge, nearly windowless flats in half. The bricks all around her had some depressing, maroon colour, mingled with grey. This was one of those alleys in which you wouldn't want to be at night. Unfortunatly, 'at night' was a very accurate description of the time at which Eryphylene Elaille landed.
