Tomorrow
an excerpt

I went to the telephone and called my mom. I can do this, I thought, just have courage. I called her work phone and got her answering machine. The beep sound just ended. I started, “Hey mom. It’s me, Winnie… Um, I’ve been meaning to tell you something for a while, and I know right now isn’t the best time, but… I love you so so so much! And just remember that I’ve never really been that mad or upset with you. It’s just that I’ve been mad and upset with myself. I’m sorry for the all the times I cried and all the times I screamed, but dang it! I love you, Mom. I’ll be back in a week, err, 3 months. I’ve got enough money, don’t worry about that. I’ll be fine, Mom, but just realize that I’ve got to find out what the HECK I want to do with my life, and I love you. Even though I feel like you don’t care, I care about you, and I don’t want you worrying about me. I love you. Bye for now… Um, this is me Winnie.”

Then I hung up. Gosh, every time I leave a message on anyone’s machine, I always fool it up. Even when I think I’m building up all this emotional momentum, I fool it up with something stupid like, “Um, this is me Winnie.” Even though I’ve said that already. I need to work on personal relations. Whatever that is...
