an excerpt
I just came up with a briliant idea!” exclaimed Jameson.
“Why not expand the programability of the lenses.. They already provide ssoothing alternatives for the wearer thru out the day, Why not specific programming and advertising.”
“You mean bombard them with mindless garbage they get from the tube now?” said Melba, his executive assistant. “Oh, yeah. Customers are going to really go for that.”
“I'm not talking about that kind of programming. I'm talking about light airy stuff in addition to what is available now. It’s already been proven that these lenses make relaxes people, thus adding to their better moods. Making them more receptive . . .”
“More receptive to being manipulated.” she sneered.
“More receptive to being happier, healthier and more productive in their lives. They will want to do more, be more, have more.”
“Your starting to sound like a bad commercial.”
“That’s it, we’ll put a call out for proposals on programs that will be included in our lenses.”
“You'll never get the public to fall for it.”
“Oh, I think they will have no problem falling for it. They are willing to do anything to get away from their daily grind and we are providing that now. We’re just going to expand upon it.”*
