“Are you sure about this?” I asked him, holding his hand and following him out onto the cliff.
“Yes, I’m sure. Everything will be okay I promise. You’ll love this.” He looked back and smiled at me, running his hand through his short dark hair, his dark eyes sparkling in the sun.
“I trust you.”
“Good.” We walked along a slightly narrow cliff on the side of a very tall hill back in the woods over looking a river. It was like I was climbing to the top of the world. But the smell was amazing. The smell of the leaves, and the grass mixed in with the fresh air and the smell of his cologne was the most wonderful scent. I decided not to question him anymore and breathe deeply and just enjoy the view.
After a few more minutes of hiking we came up to a corner. “Now, close your eyes. I wont let you fall I promise.” He reached up and gently touched my eyelids as I closed my eyes and then kissed them. “It will be okay.”
We continued on moving forward around the corner I assumed. He was walking behind me now with his arms around my waist so we walked very slowly.
“Okay, now stop.” He whispered into my ear after a little while of walking. Then he turned me to face my right, which I knew was toward the river. But I didn’t hear the river anymore.
‘Where are we?” I asked.
“You will see in five, four, three, two…open your eyes.” He said and I opened my eyes.
I stared in wonder at the land that was laid out before me. As far as I could see in any direction were little white flowers in a grass field surrounded by woods.
“This is beautiful!” I whispered not wanting to ruin the peace that lay over the field.
“This… is our place. A place that we can come to and be alone whenever. Or a place where you can come to whenever. It’s all for you.”
“How did you find it?” I asked turning to face him and hugging him tightly.
“That’s for me to know.” He laughed.
“Okay.” I smiled and kissed him lightly.
“Do you know what I’m going to say to you now?”
“No…”
“Love always. That’s what I want you to think every time you come here or think of this place or me. Love always.”
“Love always. I like it.”
“I’m glad.” He leaned in to kiss me again and then we heard the scream.
