Matthew looked up when Jake entered and he could hear the loud purring from the cat even from across the room.

“He smells weird too,” Matthew said, stroking the cat’s neck.

“He’s a wet cat,” Jake said, throwing his jeans on his bag. “Of course he smells weird.”

Matthew just sighed and shook his head, petting the cat’s ears. Mandarin rumbled loudly and his eyes were barely slits as Matthew continued to stroke him. Jake ignored Matthew and the cat and climbed into bed. Glancing at the pair on the next bed, Jake rolled his eyes. “Maybe you and that cat should go on this adventure together.”

“Stop calling it that,” Matthew grumbled, clicking off the light. Jake could still hear Mandarin purring loudly.

“Well, you seem to like him so much more.”

“He doesn’t talk back.”
