Glitch, A Comedy of Errors
an excerpt

Do you believe in destiny? I don’t mean God’s hand in our lives directing the path we should take, I mean good old fashioned, the universe has deeper plans for you kind of destiny. Nah, me neither. But there was a point where I started to wonder.

There’s a school of thought that everything has to fall apart before it can be rebuilt the right way. That one I think I may believe.

I was twenty-six, it was the middle of a decently cool summer, my student loans were finally paid off and I had a lame job at the Albuquerque Journal. Although it was by no means hard hitting journalism it was a baby step in the right direction. I was finally content with being single and had my own apartment with not even a single roommate for the first time in my entire life.
It was a Friday night when my next-door-neighbor (And the best friend I think I’ve ever had) Ariah Chayim Mankowitz, Ri to the general public, and I rode together to a joint activity at one of the singles wards.

I figured a little spiritual uplifting, a little basketball, and a little harmless fun. Boy, was I dumb.

We were so late, even by Mormon Standard Time, that we were relegated to the very back of the cultural hall. The contribution of humanity from both wards ran into a hundred or more and seating was at a premium. Everyone was curious about Bishop Jones’ idea for the activity. All of us who were not already engaged or right on top of it had agreed to be matched through a specialized computer program and to go out on two dates.

It seemed harmless enough. Boy was I dumb.
