Brief Author Bio: My days are full with Girl Scouts (I've been a Girl Scout since 1968 - that's 41 years!), church (I direct the Children's Choir, Music Librarian and Worship Assistant), cello, gardening and golf. I am also the advisor for the High Desert Young Writers Club at the high schools where I work. But when November comes this all comes to a screeching halt as I chain myself to my computer and write. This is my third year with NaNoWriMo and my second as ML for San Bernardino County, California, USA. My first WriMo novel was "The Adventures of Tabitha Rose" a historical fiction, last year was "A Heart of Ice" a romance novel and this year I'm going to try my hand at an action-adventure novel. |

Synopsis: The Lay of Beowulf's Sword
Serenity Diaz, Master Gunnery Sergent USMC (ret), is an master of cryptology and ancient langauges. When she is literally dragged from an archeological dig to Washington D.C. she had no idea it would be the beginning of a search for the real Beowulf.
Excerpt: The Lay of Beowulf's Sword
By midnight the camp was silent and the only light camp from lamps carried by the two watchmen. The watch was changed every two hours from ten at night until five the morning. So as the current pair went to wake their relief they notices a sound in the distance, like a humming bird flying, and it was getting closer. Diaz heard it too, rousing her from a light sleep. She laid there on her cot and sitting up when she realized it was, a helicopter. It was not just any helicopter, but a military one and it was headed straight for them. Just as it began to hover over the canon, she leapt from her cot and called for the girls to move. The canyon was a blaze with flood lights from the helicopter as men dressed in black repelled down and charged the camp. The girls in pajamas and sneakers responded by defending themselves, ignoring Mac’s order to head for the corpse of Joshua trees near the canyon wall. Three Marine Green Berets were down with broken ribs or dislocated joints before the commander identified himself and Diaz order the girls to stand down.
The Master Gunny commanding the group was shocked to see his bruised men limp toward the mess tent, “A bunch of Girl Scouts did this?”
“Yes, Master Gunny.” Diaz tried to suppress a smile. “And why in the hell were you and your men coming in to my camp loaded for bear?”
“We have our orders to execrate Gunnery Sergeant Diaz and transport to D. C. ASAP.”
“Well I her. Come on, you can explain over cup of coffee,” an exasperated Diaz said leading into the tent.
So over a cup of coffee the Master Gun explained that their orders were to get her out of the canyon and to D. C. at all costs.
“Let me guess,” Diaz asked. “These orders came from Major North?”
“Yes, how did you know that?”
“Lucky guess.” And with that she put cup down, “I’ll be ready in fifteen minutes.”
Diaz grabbed her duffle and gave instructions to Runner as she boarded the helicopter. “Get the sight secured, pack the artifacts and get them to my lab and see the girls safely off home. When you’re done with that meet me in D. C., it seems they have a job for us.”
