Fate Bringer
an excerpt
There was something truly unsettling about the dark truck that had been following me since leaving the last town. Tinted windows kept the occupants inside completely safe from prying eyes, particularly my prying eyes. Even though my current vehicle of choice’s side mirrors, which were about as big as my fist, it would have been comforting to look back and actually see who was following me, even if they were itty bitty specks. Even the damn front windows were tinted.
A few cars had tried to pass it, there was enough space between the bike and the truck to fit a mid size car into but no one tried. The few that had tried were meet with the roar of an engine that meant serious business and backed off not wanting to take any chances. So now it was me on my motorcycle and them in their seriously intimidating tinted window truck.
“Odd are not in your favor today,” I muttered to no one, the words instantly silenced by the helmet protecting my face from road rash, accidents and the dreaded flying bugs.
Well new buddy, I thought to the bike, time to show them what you are worth. With a twist of the wrist the engine of the bike roared to new life and I found myself flying down the street with a speed that I hadn’t truly been anticipating. As the world rushed by and the wind forced my jacket against my arms I knew it wasn’t good enough. The truck from hell was still behind me and approaching with amazing speed.
“Fight or flight,” I whispered. “Flight or fight.”
While fighting was a distinctly good possibility at this moment, the laws of nature wouldn’t have been on my side. Plus who knew what the truck had in the way of armor, could probably run me down and keep going without a single scratch. So flight it was, too bad the driver of the truck wasn’t going to make it easy for me. Lucky for me I knew these roads as well as I knew the back of my own hand and if knowledge served my correctly the road was about to separate and it was from there, just a few short miles until safety.
Rokuin territory and my first decent paying job in months, here I come. First things first though and getting away from the demon truck was number one priority.
“Holy shit!”
