Synopsis: A Pirate's Heritage
Back when the Vikings invaded Europe, a pirate ship landed in Scotland. The son of the captain, Lars, didn't want to have anything to do with piracy, and escaped, making his way into the lowlands of Scotland. Before he manages to make a home for himself, he is forced to flee from his father's minions, and the female pirate who had set her cap for him. This takes him to different parts of Scotland, including a monastery, where, in seclusion for his safety, he finds he's picked the wrong place. His father invades the monastery and Lars is instrumental in leading people to safety. Finally, with winter coming on, the pirate captain elects to return home, and Lars finds a place to make his home, as well as a woman to wed.
In modern times, Sheila visits Scotland in search of her roots and discovers she is the descendant of Astrid, a female priate from the 9th century. While studying material from the 16th century, she learns about a man descended from Lars. She is suddenly transported back to that time and lands near the descendant's castle, also Lars.
The descendant, originally a thoughtful caring man, has, because of a spell, become greedy and mean and has a difficult time managing the castle and his people. Still, because of a spell partially reversing the evil one, he has glimpses of what he once was and, in a moment of what he would call weakness, helps the stranger (Sheila), who appears on his land.
Sheila, who has a special gift, knows he has a problem and vows to help him. Her own descendancy from Astrid complicates matters because of another descendant from the same woman, who is not a nice person. They become rivals for Lars and also engage in a search for a way to end the spell. In Sheila's case, to end the evil spell; in the other woman's, the good spell.
Sheila faces many trials and dangers, along with Lars, including a sea creatures, as well as some who help, like the fairies. Lars is so drawn to Sheila that, in spire of his preponderance of wicked thougjhts and deeds, cannot stop himself from being good to her, which increases the good part of the spell.
After each almost losing their lives, including being tossed back and forth between the two druid priestesses who cast the spells (immortal), fighting for supremacy, Lars and Sheila defeat the evil and make a loving life for themselves.
