Brief Author Bio:

I'm a journalism grad (IUP-'93) who worked as a journalist several years at a weekly newspaper before moving on to work at a big corporation. I went from interviewing local artists and covering municipal meetings to writing processes and internal communications.

Until joining and winning NaNo in '08, I never enjoyed or had plans to write fiction. Occasionally I'd be inspired and write a short story, but only for myself. NaNo was a blast and helped me enjoy writing fiction because there was a clear deadline and a concise goal-50,000 words in 30 days!

I can't wait for more pain and torture this year! Most of my writing is done late at night after the 3 kiddos are in bed. Last year I had to type quietly on the computer in the kids' room-this year I have my own notebook so I can sit downstairs by myself and type as loudly as I want!

Synopsis: "Daydreamer"

still need to write a synopsis, but MC is a 13-year-old girl

Excerpt: "Daydreamer"

Wren Chambers couldn't decide which was worse - that today was the last day of summer vacation, or that tomorrow was the start of a new school year?

As if going to seventh grade wasn't bad enough, she was going to a new school where she knew, maybe 10 people, thanks to a stupid redistricting by her school district. How could they do that, she wondered? Just redraw some lines on paper and send you to another school! Send you away from friends you've known since kindergarten? Send you not to the middle school that was seven blocks from your home and a block from your old elementary school but to “the other” middle school five miles away in another township? Make kids who had walked to school every day ride the bus?

After a whole summer thinking about it, she was still pissed. Yes, she said the word “pissed,” but only in her head. Her mom would freak if she heard her talk like that out loud, and she'd launch into one of her “Young ladies don't...” lectures.
