The Centre of the Earth is an Attraction
an excerpt

The grovesner had been completely repainted in the colours of the Alpha C companies livery. Which was no mean feat as the Grovesner has been extended five years prior to be 300 stories tall. A new technology had been developed in the late 21st century which allowed buildings to be erected much taller than they ever had before, the technology simply shrouded the building in a metaphyscial forcefield, this forcefield, having no substance, was rather like the emporers new clothes, it only existed if you belived it did. The astonishing thing was, the inventor, none other than Archibald Scalp had somehow managed to design the Metaphysical Force Field in such a way that you believed it worke.d. Even if you didn't. Even more astonishing was that it also managed to persuade mother nature and the laws of physics that it existed also. The MetaField, as it became known, shrouded any object in a forcefield which was all but impenitrable, even though it didn't actually exist. So, planes, bombs, birds, wind, rain -- in fact, anything, was unable to penetrate the MetaField. Which meant that SkyScrapers were replaced with SpaceScrapers. The MetaField, coupled with new building technology meant that the Grovesner was huge. 20,000 rooms, all serviced by an armada of robot maids and concierges, all with their own kettle, tv, gideons bible and a corby trouser press.
