Synopsis: The Myth of Observation

MC can see through people and has been able to see demons all his life. Living alone at age 23, daily five o' clock in the morning runs (prime time to run without running into people) lead him to meet a strange little man who has just moved into the house at the top of the hill. A goblin who lives on the mans shoulders seems to be the one really behind all the evil doing. Nursery rhyme character tie-ins are planned through out the book. The above strange man for example is the crooked man from the poem.

Excerpt: The Myth of Observation

I heard hammering as I came up on his house. Thunder rolled in the sky and a few solitary rain drops hit my face just as I stopped in front of his house. The goblin, let's call him hoblin, hob for short, saw me first as usual and clutched down onto the man. He opened his mouth, seemed to unhinge his jaw like a boa constrictor and devoured the man's head from behind. He covered him like a mask almost the whole face save for the man's mouth. Let's call him Dirty Harry, that sounds like a shady character doesn't it? Ok good. So Dirty Harry got a facial with demon spit and came parading over to meet me. He walked in a strict straight line, instead of his crooked little side step that I saw every other day.
"You." he threw his left hand out towards me, Hob's hand guiding his every move, his own hand engulfing Dirty Harry's. "Get off my property."
"I'm not on your property."
"Stop bothering us." Hob's eyes covered Dirty Harry's so they bulged out like a bugs. I think one of them was stuck over Dirty Harry's nose, the other over his cheek area? It looked weird let me just tell ya. Not to mention the constant drizzle of drool crawling down Dirty Harry's mouth, chin, beard, now heading towards the shoes.
"I think it's just as much my business to know what you're doing out here as it is yours. I live down the street. You're working out in the public." I crossed my arms over my chest.
He sneezed, Dirty Harry did, and snot mixed with the drool. It didn't faze me much. Growing up as the little terror I had been I wasn't easily grossed out anymore. Drool, snot, mud, bug guts, they were all my speciality back in the day. Hob's cat eye rolled over to the other side of Dirty Harry's nose, the eye dilated as it looked me up and down. Lazily I bent to pick up a stick. I poked it around the ground absently as we stared each other down. "You going to just stay like that forever?" I finally asked. "Or are you going to get back to your work?"
Hob's tongue flicked out to lick me but he hesitated. He was tasting the air. By the way he sucked his tongue back around Dirty Harry's head where the rest of his mouth was, he didn't like what he tasted. He pulled back off Dirty Harry and went back to where he sat normally.
Dirty Harry didn't notice anything. I wondered if he knew Hob personally. If they talked. . . because it didn't seem like they knew each other. Dirty Harry never reacted to anything physical Hob did to him, i.e. what just happened.
