Excerpt: Out of the Deep

Meliak sensed something to her left and turned to try to tell what it was when Ashaak to her right and a little forward of her screamed and started thrashing. She was caught in the clutches of a giant beast unlike any Meliak had seen before. It was enormous, bigger than a kelp forest but vertical, invisible like a jellyfish, and once it had Ashaak's arm it would not let go. As Ashaak thrashed, it wrapped around her tighter and tighter until she was bound so tight she could not move anymore. Meliak, terrified, sent out a distress signal in a burst of electricity from her hands and a stream of squid ink from a bottle in her pouch.
