A Deadly Masquade
an excerpt

There I was. In Science class. The last class of the day listening to the clock tick as the teacher drowned on about decimals or fractions or whatever we were doing. I was like most in my class waiting for the bell to buzz so I could get to the first meeting of the Drama Club this year. And then, it did.

I was the first out the door and only the second to the lockers, next to that track superstar. I quickly turned the dials. 32, 49 and 16. It was open I threw the unneeded books and binders on my nuclear gym bag, closed the locker, and ran only to make a pit stop at the wash room. Then I made it.

Oh, I guess I should tell you my name, huh. It’s Patrick MacDonald, but everyone calls me Pat. Well everyone that is in the small percentage that knows me. I moved to Silver Lake during the summer. On July 21st I think it was. We would have been here on the 20th but we got stuck outside a bookstore, were a whole bunch of people, mostly girls, were screaming for a new book about a teen wizard.

I’m 15 years old and my favorite subjects in school are English and Drama. People tell me that I don’t pay enough attention. Oh well. I have light brown hair with ocean blue eyes My mom died when I was born and Dad is rarely home, so it’s usually just me and Buster, my dog.
