Synopsis: A Field Guide to the Gods of Teramosa
The flamboyant half-brother of the Queen, an eccentric lesbian naturalist, an ex-military college student, a pyromaniac barmaid, a trigger-happy geologist, and a fanatically religious secret service agent are sent on an expedition to find the legendary Lost City.
Their lighthearted adventure soon becomes a terrifying ordeal that strains friendships and sanity as they face the harsh elements, resentful natives, and eerie god-creatures of the wilderness. They witness the havoc other expeditions have wreaked on the cultures of the frontier and begin to question their role in the invasion. Plus, the Lost City, an entire civilization built into the walls of a huge canyon, isn't so lost after all, and the residents aren't about to let it be looted.
Soon, the party finds themselves immersed in a strange culture, observing grisly funeral rites, entering hang-gliding contests, eating hallucinogenic fungus, falling in love with a local healer, and communing with a monstrous tentacled god. From thrills to absolution to romance, each of the explorers will discover something they need in the Lost City. But none will be able to keep it.
