a blurred world (working title)
an excerpt

The world blurred by, nothing much standing out, except, in the distance, the lights of a town. It was earlier enough that the residents would still be awake. Her home town, the place that had birthed her, that had tossed her out. She had lived amongst her compatriots in the desert in a tiny enclave. Those who were impure, abominations in the “greatest of races,” were cast out into the very desert that had brought about her race. considered of no worth and forbidden to breed those of certain mindsets or with physical deformities were tossed out. quite a community had evolved out in the desert, each in small pockets, all will to assist the others. There was no other really viable option. Either those tossed out helped one another on their numbers would dwindle into nothingness. And many were crimes that could be commited. Love of the same gender, a questioning of the woman’s role in society, questioning of the leaders of the community, simply not being as smart as the rest of the children. It was a brutal society, but it was still hers. It was not honor that had her racing across the sands, nor desire for redemption. It was simply an odd loyalty towards her people as a whole, no matter how stunted they might be. The truth about them, as she saw now, was that they were simply very, very scared of the world.
