"The Fallen of Quivere" Book A: Origins
an excerpt

“I want to show you something.” He told me silently, “If you don’t mind.”
“What?” I said confused.
“I’ll show you.” He said as he started to walk down the hall. He turned noticed I wasn’t following him and asked me, “Are you coming?”
I slowly followed him. It’s got to be better than going back into a slow dance. He walked down to on of the teacher’s offices, Mr. Achinson’s. He pulled a set of key from his pocket and placed one of the many keys inside the doorknob. He unlocked the private office and let the door swing open.
Inside there was a blue room with a fridge, couches, posters of basketball players and a stack of comic books. The television hung up on the wall.
“Wow,” I said amazed, “I never seen a teacher’s office before.”
“Actually,” Haku told me, “this isn’t a teacher’s office.”
“It’s Mr. Achinson’s… it says so on the front.” Haku shook his head,
“It’s not exactly his room, it’s mine… he gave it to me.” We walked in and Haku left the door wide opened.
“You live here?” Haku went all serious.
“Well, lately I have been sleeping in the school attic…”
“Wait,” so you were up there the night I was staying in the school?” I asked him. He looked at me,
“When?” I told him a little confused,
“Two days ago… Sarah made me stay inside the school all night to be accepted in her group.”
“The school is dangerous,” Haku said surprisingly, “Never come here by yourself at night, you understand?” Why would the school be dangerous? I thought to myself. But Haku stare of seriousness lead me to believe this. So I nodded.
“So,” I said trying to change the subject, “how did you get the room?”
“That is a story,” he continued, “That I can not tell you yet.”
“You so mysterious Haku,” I said concerned, “All you have to do is open up to people and then you won’t be so alone all the time.” I took a good looked around the room again. Kobe Bryant posters and comic books lied all over the floor. Then I heard a slow song flow into the room. Haku turned on the stereo.
“Mind,” he told me, “if we have a dance, this one is my favorite.” I felt scared and butterflies flew into my stomach.
“I rather not.” I told him. His brown yellow eyes drew me in and before I knew it, he held my hand and we formed a waltz position. Waltz, I haven’t waltz in years… good thing I remembered doing it.
“Marissa,” Haku said whispering in my ear, “Where did you learn to waltz?” I felt like I was in a total trance like a victim to a vampire. I told with out thinking,
“Gym Class in my other school.”
“It is very good.” He continued. He started to move in closer to me and I completely forgot how to react. I couldn’t even remember why I didn’t want a slow song in the first place. He body was so warm.
“You know,” he said almost in a hidden excitement touching my neck with his finger tips, “I always knew you were special from other girls Marissa and I’m glad I have met you.”
I shook in such pain all of a sudden and I snap back to memory. I immediately forced myself from him. I lost my breath, what happening?
“Don’t touch me.” I shouted at him. He looked as if his heart broke in two.
“Sorry,” he said lowering his hands, which were in mid air, “I didn’t know.”
“I want to go home.” I told him sharply.
He nodded,
“I understand.” Then I turned around to walk out to notice a mirror behind the door. I caught something that made me push the door close.
