Jules in the Rough
an excerpt

Just as she was starting to settle into a state of self pity and disappointment, the door bell rang, causing her heart to leap and stomach to fall all at the same time. Her brother beat her to the door, and she had to forcibly push him out of the way to let Steven into the house.
“Don’t mind Nicholas,” she started, giving Nicky a hard shove out of the way. “He was an accident.” She grinned at Steven, as Nicky ran out of the room.
“JULIA NOEL!” boomed her mother from the other room. Jules sent a sideways glance of mock shame Steven’s way, and then led him into the rest of the house.
“Julia Noel?” asked Steven, laughing. It seemed to him that this was going to be an interesting evening.
“Yeah, it means ‘Downy Born on Christmas Day’ so apparently I’m the 'Fabric Softener Savior'. Would you like a tour? Oh, and by the way, in order to get my mom to agree to not watch the movies with us, you will be subjected to an interrogation before any video viewing can begin.”
