The Story (1 story) - Homeward Bound (2 story) WORKING TITLES ONLY!
an excerpt

I received a letter from Becky the same day that my brother ---- arrived. He carried it with him, saying that the post master had caught him just as he arrived to London on horseback. I greeted him happily at the door. He was surprised beyond words to see me, and even more surprised to see that everyone else had been able to catch up with me for the past fortnight. He was jealous too, proclaiming that Father should never again send him on a business trip when his younger sister could home any day. Father did not look pleased at that, and turned away while ---- hugged me tightly. His face was brightly lit, as if he were having the time of his life away from Harkfield. I did not doubt that he was. He handed me the letter and although I truly did just want to run up to my room and open the letter straight away, I forced myself to listen to all that ---- had to say. Before he finally announced that supper would have to be done quickly so that he would not starve himself to death on accident, for he had had a wearying day of traveling. I laughed lightly, patted his arm and went up the broad stairs to my room.
I collapsed on my bed and looked at the sealed envelope that had somehow made it across the ocean in months of travel. My cheeks were growing warmer and warmer the longer that I delayed opening the letter. Finally, I slipped my nail until the wax and cut it. Two sheets of paper tumbled out. I screeched aloe in absolute joy, and opened the first one that fell into my hands it was Becca.
Dearest Ilana, it began. I focused my eyes in the weak evening light and struggled to make up the travel worn letters.
Dearest Ilana,
I have been delivered the most interesting of news. And I delver it to you. A man came into Boston and found me shortly after you left. Honestly, it was no more than a few days after you departed. Hence why I as able to write this letter and send it off as quickly as I did. I hope that it reached you soon after you got back to England.
The man that found me proclaimed himself to a Major ---- - ----, saying that he was in the same group as your lover dear. I was overjoyed at the news and asked him all what he could tell me about your Adrian. He seemed pleased enough to inform me that the entire troops were coming into Boston shortly. Which did not exactly give me joy but all the same I was pleased that I could so shortly fulfill my promise. On the night of the fourth day after --- --- came to me, someone knocked upon the door of our house. I was the one to open it thankfully. There was Adrian, waiting for me. Let me inform you, Ilana, that I have never seen a prettier man, and I am almost surprised that he was not snatched up by some of our Boston women, or even any women across the globe. Interesting that you could be thankful that he is the enemy, for once. Anyway, he told me who he was, even though I knew straight away that he was your Adrian. Such lovely hair I’ve never seen. And his eyes bore right into me, as he explained why he was dressed in such drab costume, so that he could deliver himself to me, and thus to you. I told him the same that I had told his friend. That you had gone home. You had looked for him until you had been shot by an enemy bullet (I saw no need to mention that it was the one that was standing right in front of him that had been a part of the shooting). He seemed discontented with the answer and glanced around behind me, as if I were hiding you up my sleeve or that you would be banging around in the closet. But now, I told him once more that you had imparted with me that promise to tell him where you had gone. I even showed him the note that you left for me to find when you left for England. That did it, for he knew your writing well. He straight away invited himself inside the house so that he could write a letter to you. Actually, he said that he had been writing letters to you since he had left from England. And he even showed them to me. But we both decided that it would be better to include them on another ship. You will receive them shortly, I am sure.
Things are just fine here. I do not feel the same without you, and assignments and passing messages around is not nearly as fun without you to make jokes with. I have come into a most interesting new possibility though. I am writing scripts for the playwright, and he pays me handsomely for my words. I plan to direct a play myself as soon as I get back on my feet. I will write to you again when I am in touch with my family. I hope that your plan worked out well for you and that your family is still fine.
Signed with absolute care,
Rebecca Cade.

I looked at the letter fondly and folded it neatly away, laying it aside for readings later. But there was another letter to read. I shivered as I opened it and saw writing from a hand that I knew so well. I could only guess when I would see it again though. For now, I could wrap myself in his words and console my worries with all that he said.
