Wandering Soul

Not bothering to look up at the newcomer to the café, I throw back over my shoulder, “I could set my clock to you.” A smooth male alto voice laughs behind me. “You going to mix it up today or are you sticking to the tried and true?”

“I’ll stick to the usual unless you’ve got a new concoction to try.” A regular to my little café. He’s a young one – I’d say late teens or early twenties by human standards. An impressive mane of hair, plus I can actually hold a decent conversation with the kid without feeling like my IQ level is dropping.

“Nothing new today.” Then again, I’m not exactly human so I guess I shouldn’t try to compare myself to them. Fixing his poison of choice, I place it down in front of the kid. Granted, I probably shouldn’t call him that aloud, but seeing as everyone else on the face of this planet, that I know of anyway, has a much more limited life span than my own, even the old geezers haven’t got anything on me.
