Scars (working title)
an excerpt
Her face sat atop her upturned white palm as she stared silently into the green eyes that looked so different from hers. The eyes that she knew were kind and flecked with honey brown, but these new eyes seemed so evil; the pupils a blood red. She wanted to think nothing of it; she knew that over the past few weeks she had become a new person. But the hunger in those red pupils frightened her so much that she had come to be afraid to even glance at a mirror. Her face that was once full of light was now thin. And her eyes… It was just today that she yanked the black sheet covering the silvery mirror above her bathroom sink to be sure the red had not been a nightmare. It hadn’t been. Yet, somehow she didn’t feel as afraid as she had when she had first seen them. After all, everything seemed to be the same; not one of her friends had noticed anything different. She leaned closer to her reflection, and stared right into the eyes, trying to find an answer to the bizarre change. One olive toned hand reached out to gently brush the surface of the mirror. Her heart beat faster, and she had no idea what was exciting her so. The eyes grew wider in anxiety and curiosity blazed in her own. Her trembling fingertips were just millimeters away from reaching the surface when she heard a door slam.
