Brief Author Bio: Leigh grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and stupidly left one day. Now she leads a shadowy existence in a horridly repressive town and has been forced by her horridly conservative non-noveling job to develop a rich and vivid fantasy life. |

Synopsis: The Wiseass and The Woman
Part the Second of last year's NaNoNovel, 'The Maiden and the Muse'. Madelaine McEwan has grown up quite a bit since the shaky and immature start of her college career, thanks in part to a trio of male muses. She now faces the challenges of dealing with an impossible senior thesis, an impossible love, a wonderful man, and a painful choice. In the interim, the plot, of course, thickens, along with the muse-ical magic.
Excerpt: The Wiseass and The Woman
Dominican seemed even smaller and sleepier than usual after my visit to UC Berkeley, and Fanjeaux didn’t look nearly as impressive as usual. But it was home. I opened the door to my room, which seemed to have developed a squeak. I pullied it closed as soon as I heard the sound.
What were the chances that I would find Hugh on the other side? Based on my admittedly flawed and simplistic understanding of what I’d read today, when I opened the door again, the universe to which I belonged would split into two, and in one of the two, he wouldn’t be there.
Please let me be in the right universe...
“Of course there’s always the chance that I’m just generally vague and dilatory. Unreliable, really. Would you quit messing about with the door and get your ass in here?”
YEAH! RIGHT UNIVERSE!
“Oh hey, Hugh. How’s it going?” I hung up my hoodie and and gave him a cool-jerk nod.
“Completely transparent, Gigi. Care to spin the wheel again?”
“You know anything about physics?”
“Oh, I see how it is now. You only love me for my mind. In the mood for Newtonian? Hamiltonian? Quick brush up on Copernicus, perhaps?”
“Your mind is the only thing you’ll LET me love you for. Jackass. You know I’m talking about recent stuff.”
“You do seem fairly conversant with inertia and entropy.”
“Thanks a lot - forget physics. I’ll bet Johnny knows more about quantum cosmology than you do anyway, I’ll ask him.”
“I wouldn’t forget about physics tonight if I were you. But best of luck with that, Buttercup, Johnny’s pretty and I’m sure he’d make a lovely pet. I just wanted to make certain you got back where you belong in one piece for a change.”
Before I could think of anything else to say, he gave me an infuriatingly cheery kiss on the forehead, smirked, snapped his fingers and disappeared.
“Stop watching ‘Bewitched’ Hugh, you look like Elizabeth Montgomery when you do that,” I yelled at the general vicinity of the air above my head.
Really, having the power to simply vanish on the exit line of one’s choice was unfair.
