My Name is Suzanne
an excerpt
August 12, 2002
My name is Suzanne, and these are the secrets I will keep with me until I die.
Hardly secrets, you say? Think I’m blabbing to the world, is that it? Well, who are you, anyway? You don’t exist. You aren’t real, not like I am. You’re just blank pages, slowly morphing into something else. You are my secrets, which one day, when I am dead and decaying, will be thrown away with the rest of the junk I have collected. So yes, they are secret, no worries, no fear, and secret they shall stay.
Sam’s mouth dropped open. Hell, who knew Grandma O was so… dramatic? And why would she ever want to write that as her first paragraph of her diary? What kind of secrets could she have anyway? She never seemed like that exciting of a person, pretty quiet, satisfied with knitting and her cats and her husband...
She shouldn’t have done that, shouldn’t have written those words to Sam, but her favorite grandchild had the right to know what was going to happen to her. Heaven was a funny place, and Suzanne had been shocked as all get out to find herself there. By no means had she been a horrible person, but at the same time she hadn’t really been tooting God’s horn on earth. At the very least she had been right, her God was forgiving, and damn that bastard, He had a sense of humor.
