I'll Stop The World
an excerpt

They exchange phone numbers that night and agree to secretly meet. Aaron calls Kate the next day and their first conversation lasts for hours. They make more definite plans to meet the next day, a mere forty hours after seeing each other for the first time. He picks her up in his car and they drive to the harbourfront where they walk around, look at art, drink smoothies and look into each other's eyes whenever the opportunity presents itself.

She is not like the girls he knew in high school. Whenever he seemed to like a girl they always seemed to shrink away from him. It was as if his very decision to like them triggered a disinterestedness in the girls that doomed his attempts. It had just happened again with Susan. Everything was going wonderfully. She was laughing at everything he said, witty banter back and forth and meaningful discussions were being had but as soon as he decided in his mind that she would be his girlfriend Susan became unconsciously distant and less interested. It was what he would later call Groucho Marxism; the refusal to join any club that would have them. Girls seemed to all be Groucho Marxists at heart dropping any boy who was foolish enough to offer them membership.
