Rogue Synth (possible working title)
an excerpt

Prologue

Early in the 21st century, the people of Earth tried to make a change. Politicians, activists, celebrity personalities, and the everyday citizen held rallies and protests. Some made films, wrote books, and sought media coverage to warn the world. Others won awards and accolades for their tireless effort.

The majority of the world, however, didn’t listen and continued to live their lives. The temperature rose as pollution saturated the atmosphere. They consumed everything they could from the land and sea. Humans stripped the natural resources, destroyed forest and desert alike. Corporations expanded and destroyed. Military powers sought for control. War and famine spread across the globe blind to race, religion and wealth. Radicals fought for land and money. Homegrown terrorism flooded the streets of every major city on every continent.

When the leaders of the most powerful countries came together in 2090, it was already too late to stop the constant devastation Mother Nature began to wreak upon its children. She fought back with vengeance. She lashed out with tsunamis, earthquakes, hurricanes, and the wildest fires ever seen on the planet. Water evaporated. Animals ran scarce. New, rapidly spreading and easily mutated viruses ran amuck among the population. Science couldn’t keep up with the changes. Religious believers prayed for miracles.

No region of the globe went untouched as the planet taught the Human race a lesson it would never forget. A hundred year reign of Hell cut the population of the planet in half. Land mass decreased by twenty percent due to a rise in sea level. Whole island nations were lost. Hundreds of species of animals went extinct.

Strongest of the species, Humans, survived.

Near the turn of the 23rd century, the world had come to terms with its newly shaped world. The EAA Union governed the western hemisphere. The Democratic Americas governed east. A pact between the two came after lengthy negotiations and trade agreements.

The people of the world continued to strive for peace while rebuilding neighborhoods, towns, and cities. Medical advances hit a stride curing many human ailments. New, clean energy boomed and technology soared.

Yet there were still some who refuse to see the second chance human existence has been given. They continue to fight and destroy for money and power.

In attempts to rid the world of evil, the North American States created a group of soldiers known as SynthMales: enhanced humans bred to protect and police the world.

Believed to be a myth, no civilian had ever seen a SythMale, until now.
