It never takes much to start an argument, and firehouse politics is one of the quickest ways to get the shouting started. That being said, it really shouldn’t have been a surprise when the annual elections of officers turned into a shouting match. The campaign for Fire Chief had been particularly prolonged and ugly. The current Chief, Gus Barnes had been in the job for 8 years and there was a growing group of members that felt it was time for a change. On the other side were the good old boys, the ones who had been members of the department for most of their lives, who supported Gus and had the political power to keep him in the job. What was surprising is that Gus ended up dead.
