Deep within the dark manor laid a deserted supply route. The once busy place was unguarded and nearly forgotten.
Or so it would seem.
What lived in the manor never saw light. It kept to the shadows, and, even in the inky darkness that was night in the city, it ventured out only when its underlings failed. That which lived only in the unguarded tunnels of its lair and the pages of storybooks was never seen by law-abiding citizens. Hidden, it emerged after dusk in a pack to dispose of criminals.
In a cobweb-filled corner behind a once-grand set of spiraling stairs, something shifted. Another slipped, panther-like, to peer at the dusty mirror that would never reflect his face. A third awoke from where it slept beneath an archway. With each passing moment, more rose from sleep.
As the sun slipped beneath the horizon and dusk became dark, what lived in the house began to move. The creatures of myths and fairytales were alive.
